Hannah Ewald
ARTISTIC DIRECTION, Conzept, Arrangement, CONSULTING
Hannah Ewald, born in 1987, is a self-employed choir director, music teacher and composer in Leipzig. She studied school music and vocal pedagogy in Hamburg, as well as innovative choir leading in Aalborg, Denmark. Because she loves learning, she regularly attends further training courses, including the annual course in vocal improvisation with Rhiannon in 2025, as well as Music Theatre Education: Artistic Practice and Participation at the Federal Academy for Cultural Education in Wolfenbüttel.
The starting point for her choir work are the questions: What can choir work look like today, what can a choir achieve? Her focus is on sound-appropriate movement, scenic work, community and participation, and her favourite methods include vocal painting, resonance teaching and the intelligent choir.
During her studies, she took on musical direction and dramaturgy for musical theatre productions, and later worked with choirs on the topic of stage presence. Hannah Ewald writes and composes critical, innovative music for children's and adult choirs and was the winner of the Females featured composition competition in 2023. She wants to impart knowledge and practical skills in areas that are rarely sung about in choirs, such as nature conservation, saying no, diversity and sexualised violence. She helped establish the German Youth Choir's Kinderchorland and Singbus programmes and supports the German Choir Association's Carusos by providing further training for educators on child-friendly singing in daycare centres. She is a synesthete and sees sounds in coloured shapes and structures, among other things.
